Women Without Borders, my one woman show, which opened in New York last week to great acclaim, provided me an opportunity to collaborate with some very talented people, including my sound and video designer, Guillermo Laporta. The play was partly about growing up with musicians and artists and required a designer with a great sensitivity to a wide variety of music.: from Stravinsky and Scriabin to Celia Cruz and Arturo O'farill. Since I mention that my father Alberto Bolet, a great conductor, taught me to read an orchestral score at the age of seven with Stravinsky's Petroushka, Gillermo played that piece as an audience warmup with a recording he had played flute in with the Oviedo Symphony orchestra in Spain! It was such a lovely surprise and so personal to both of us.
In doing my work, I always enjoy it most when meaningful collaborations are developed, because we can all grow our technical skills and our artistry.
